New Gold Medal for Pagos de la Sonsierra

Ever since its first edition in 1976, the Challenge International du Vin has ranked among the world’s most important wine-tasting contests, due to its exceptional rigour and fierce independence. The aim of the Challenge is to identify and promote the world’s finest wines and introduce wine-lovers to new talents in the oenological field.

Pagos de la Sonsierra is pleased to add another medal to its collection of accolades, which includes major prizes such as the Gold Medal at the 2017 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, the Grand Gold Medal at the 2016 “Tempranillos al Mundo” International Wine Competition and the 92 points awarded by Wine Spectator magazine.

These international awards and competition medals are recognition of the hard work and achievement of Bodegas Sonsierra in creating authentic wines that reflect the personality of the Tempranillo variety of San Vicente de la Sonsierra, one of the most prestigious vine-growing areas within the Rioja PDO region.

Pagos de la Sonsierra 2013is made from grapes grown in vineyards ranging from 45 to 100 years old, all of which are characterized by very limited grape production and a very special terroir, reflecting the fact that the vineyards are located at an altitude of 450 to 700 metres. It is an outstanding example of the Bodegas Sonsierra philosophy.

The Challenge International du Vin gave further recognition to the work of Bodegas Sonsierra by awarding a bronze medalto another of its wines, Sonsierra Blanco Selección 2017, a young wine made from grapes of the nativeViuravariety.
