Sonsierra Vendimia Seleccionada 2011 is the only Rioja vintage to have won the Grand Gold Medal, the competition’s highest award. The history of the medal goes back more than 20 years and it is considered the “World Championship” of wine tastings, as well as offering one of the most representative stages on which to promote the diversity of the international wine world. It is also the most popular competition amongst Spanish winemakers.
At Bodegas Sonsierra we are extremely pleased to have won such an important award at such a popular and competitive contest, and without a doubt it will encourage us to continue our efforts and ensure that each bottle leaving our winery exemplifies the very best of our vineyards.
Sonsierra Vendimia Seleccionada 2011 is a vintage wine, made from 100% Tempranillo grapes grown in selected old-growth vineyards planted in the foothills of the Cantabrian Mountains. It is barrel-aged in 70% new American oak and 30% used French oak.
This is an elegant, original wine, with a strong aroma of ripe red fruit that combines perfectly with the vanilla, cream and toasty notes against a mineral background that are developed during barrel aging. Its great complexity and volume in the mouth make this a particularly memorable wine.
