Three Sonsierra wines rank top among Spanish wines for James Suckling

Over the course of a thoroughly extensive review of the wine-producing regions of this country – during which Suckling and his team tasted over 2,600 different wines – the critic highlighted “the consistency that most of the main Spanish wine-producing regions are obtaining in their reds“. He also commended the rise of Rioja and the role played by some of the wineries and producers in redefining the style of wines in the region.

He notes that “Rioja has reinvented itself in a daring yet brilliant and balanced style. This has made it into one of the most reliable sources of dry reds in the wine-making world“.

In point of fact, two of our reds – ‘Sonsierra Crianza 2015‘ and ‘Sonsierra Vendimia Seleccionada 2014‘ – received 91 and 90 points respectively in this tasting, alongside the 90 points for one of our standout whites – ‘Sonsierra Tempranillo White 2017‘. This latter is all the more surprising given that Suckling’s report reveals that he was rather disappointed in general with Spanish whites, with the exception of those of the DO Rías Baixas.
